Sonoma County

OUR COUNTY

Sonoma County is located about 30 miles north of San Francisco. We have more than 200 wineries, superb beaches and fishing, the beautiful Russian River, incredible redwood forests, 21 golf courses, horse and NASCAR racing, over 40 spas, intriguing museums, great shopping, numerous galleries, fun festivals, farm markets and incredible restaurants. With over 1500 square miles of land, there is tremendous variety here.

What goes with wine? Food of course! As a result of our wine country heritage, we have a stunning array of first class chefs operating out of a wide variety of wineries and restaurants.

Population of the county is now approaching ½ million and we have a thriving farming industry as well as almost 14,000 non-farm businesses.  Wine is our largest agricultural product, followed pretty closely by horses, so we are a country-lifestyle-friendly place to live. Many people move here to retire, particularly from the San Francisco Bay Area, as they appreciate our attractive property values and warm and welcoming lifestyle. It’s interesting to note that many of the people who move away from Sonoma County return to live again at a later point in their lives, just proving what a wonderful place this is to live.
